This is my fourth post in a series of posts about story arcs in the Hayate no Gotoku manga.

Hakuou After Hours: A Small Arc

Chapter 41.5: Radical Dreamers
This chapter is quite interesting as it takes place around a few months after the events it was published around. This is a Hayate-centric chapter and is actually at least somewhat important in the story overall as it fits into a certain time and later posts will reference this chapter as later chapters happen at the same time as this one. So onto a quick write-up for this chapter.
This chapter opens with Hayate exclaiming that the Aegean Sea is beautiful and the narrator noting that it is Golden Week. Hayate wants to go outside into the sunshine, but Nagi wants to stay in. Hayate pouts and Nagi caves and decides that they can go outside for a walk. During the walk Nagi and Maria talk about how they lived in the Mediterranean earlier in their lives. Hayate says that Nagi should be out in the sun more and Nagi says that reminds her of someone she met earlier. The wind blows Nagi's hat off and Hayate jumps to catch it. Once he lands after having caught it he meets a younger Nagi who takes the hat from him. Hayate realizes he might have traveled through time and tries, unsuccessfully, to ask a random person the date. Hayate thinks that since he is in the past he may be able to change Nagi for the better and decides to spend the day with the younger Nagi. Nagi gets attacked by the Mafia, she reveals that the attacks are the reason she doesn't go outside, and Hayate swears to protect her so she see the stars with him. Hayate decides to defeat the Mafia and tries to get young Nagi to call the police. An attacker pops out of a trash can, Hayate throws Nagi's hat at the attacker, the attacker fires his gun through the hat, and Hayate takes the attacker out. Hayate apologizes for the hole, but young Nagi says it is okay as it acts as proof of her being saved. Young Nagi decides to see the sky just as a gust of wind blows her hat off and Hayate disappers (likely chasing the hat, but he isn't shown jumping). Hayate returns to the present with the hat and places it on Nagi's head, Nagi notices the hole in it, and they both comment about how beautiful the sky is. Thus marks the end of Radical Dreamers.
